One blessing Chidi from Delta State, but living in Owo has narrated how her younger sister was allegedly killed by her husband in October 15, 2020 at Ogbese community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. The alleged wife killer reportedly fled after the act.
She explained that though the couple, Christiana (popularly called mummy Prosper) and Ikechukwu Patrick her husband were not legally joined together as husband and wife, but had been living as such for many years. The couple, according to her, were blessed with four children while their first born is 19.
Blessing explained further that, “I was called from Owo that my younger sister, Christina, 42, was dead resulted from domestic violence between her and her husband. According to their 2nd born, his dad beat his mum with an iron rod and held her neck to the ground for a few minutes in the evening of October 14.
“That wasn’t the first time they would fight. They had fought severally and would settle. We’d once advised the wife to leave the home.
“The duo lived and were into farming at Ogbese. As I rushed to Ogbese that day, I met my sister lifeless on the bed and nobody was with her in the room. I asked of the husband and his family members including the mother-in-law. None of them was around.”
Blessing explained further that she later saw the mother-in-law somewhere around and held her to provide her son.
“I went to the police station to report the matter but before I and the police returned to where I saw the mother she had left the location. The police therefore took the deceased to the mortuary. For about two days no family member showed up”, Blessing said.
Another member of the wife’s family who confirmed the incident to Omo Edema, Victoria Ademola said she had left for market when she received a call from Ogbese that her sister was in comma.
“I asked if she was sick because I wasn’t aware she was sick. As I called the caller back and asked what really happened, I was informed that her husband beat her to comma over domestic responsibilities.
“I called their 2nd born, Proper and he confirmed to me that her mother was in comma really, adding that they were on their way to the State specialist hospital Akure.
“I quickly moved to the hospital but couldn’t find them there. I Was eventually informed that she was brought to the hospital dead.”
Victoria added that an eyewitness confirmed that the doctor they met at the hospital called for the husband of Christiana and asked of what really happened to her from him. But he denied knowing anything about it.
“According to Prosper, her mother was rejected at the hospital. On their way back home, his father pretended as if he was going to buy a drug, he came down from the vehicle conveying them and left. That’s was the last time they saw him since the incident”, Victoria said.
Victoria also explained that the elders in their in-law’s house have been threatening that Ikechukwu can not be seen unless the case is withdrawn from the Police.
“The case has been transferred to Police State Headquarters. But the IPO told us that we should continue to look for the man and come back to report to them when seen”, she added.
All effort made to speak with the Police Public Relation Officer, Ondo State Command on this incident proved abortive.
