A congregant of Sotitobire Praising Centre at Oshinle Quarters Akure said her one-year-old boy Eninla Kolawole Gold last Sunday disappeared at the children section of the church.
Speaking in protest with Babatunde Bamigboye (Omo Edema) on the strange incident, the distraught mother—Kolawole Modupe said that the Sunday was the first time she would take the little boy to the children section of the church. She added that the boy could never leave the section where there were over one hundred children except somebody carried him because he was not even toddling yet.
According to her, “my husband and I became members of the church (Sotitobire Praising Centre) in this year. I had never taken my child to the children department of the church before. That was the first time. I took him there as they complained that the little children were disturbing the service in the main assembly.
“When I took Gold there, he was no. 87 on the children register. There were about eleven teachers taking care of the little children at the section. I dropped his lunch bag filled with assorted children drinks and caddies.”
Modupe said being the first time of taking the child to the department, she returned there after a while to check maybe he was cooperating with their caretakers. She said she was shocked to see her boy being fed with buns by a young lady she taught was among the caretakers.
“When I saw my child being fed with buns by the young lady, I taught she was among the teachers in charge of the children. I asked if the food was provided by the church but they said no. I told them to stop feeding him with the food I knew nothing about. I informed them that all what he could eat were available in his lunch bag and left for the main auditorium.”, Modupe explained.
She said she returned to the children section again around 11.40am to check on him but to her dismay, she couldn’t find him. All effort to look for him proved abortive.
“I called the attention of their caretakers to the disappearance of my child and they said it might be that somebody took him out. I asked of the young lady feeding him earlier, but to my surprise, the about eleven children caretakers denied of knowing anything about the lady.
“I informed my husband immediately. We were asked to be patient which we did for a few hours. The church did not take the issue as very important. We became restless and started to shout. They did not even announce it as the service was still in progress. In fact the founder of the church, Prophet Babatunde Omoemi (Sotitobire), in the evening after the service, said we should go home that the little boy would be found as if he was an insect.
“When we couldn’t hold it anymore, began to protest around 6pm. We eventually slept in the church.”, Modupe said.
Confirming the incident, the father of the little boy, Kolawole Temitope who also was in the church during the service said that was their first time of taking the child to the children section of the church.
He lamented that instead of the church swinging into action in looking for the boy who got lost under its watch, the church has resorted in harassing them with police.
“We have been threatened and harassed on the loss of our only child.”, Temitope said.
Omo Edema visited the church last Tuesday with a view to meet with the founder, Prophet Omoemi (Sotitobire) on the allegation against him and his church, but the man of God was said to be on an assignment outside the city.
“The heavy presence of the police in the church premises was intimidating as everybody coming into the enclosed street was seen as a suspect. The man of God was said to be on assignment else where.
“All efforts made to speak with the founder and General Overseer of the church proved abortive as calls and messages sent to his mobile line have not returned any response as at the time of filling this report.”, Omo Edema said.
