It is no longer a news that an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure recently sentenced one Chukwudi Onweniwe to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend, Nifemi Adeyeye.

The convict committed the crime in 2016 at Ogbese in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. The deceased and his boyfriend were Part-time Students, studying Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. Click here for Nifemi’s picture.

Speaking earlier in an interview with Babatunde Bamigboye (Omo Edema) in 2016 on why he killed his girlfriend, Onweniwe said that there was no disagreement of any kind between him and his girlfriend, and that he killed her for no reason.

According to the 22-year-man then, “Nifemi did not offend me. I took her to the bush along the road to my father’s farm just to kill her there.

“I’m a Christian—an usher in the church. I didn’t know what came over me that day. I called her to visit me at home and when she came, I took her to the bush where I clutched her neck until she looked lifeless. When I thought she was dead, I left her and went home.

Onweniwe was arraigned before the court in May 2017 where four counts of action endangering life, kidnapping, rape and murder were preferred against him.

After the facts of the case were examined, the count of rape was excluded as the court held that on three of the counts, the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
