Allegations of islamization: It is dangerous, deceptive and ungodly to play politics with religion — Buhari

Ahead of Saturday February 23, 2019 elections, President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he had no islamization of Nigeria in his agenda, saying it is dangerous, deceptive and ungodly to play politics with religion.

Speaking on Friday in Abuja through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the president said that some unscrupulous Nigerians were again falsely and wickedly claiming that his administration had an agenda to impose Islam on Nigeria. He said those behind this campaign were doing so to cause religious division among Nigerians for political gains.

According to him, “the objective is clearly to stoke up religious division for political gains. Some of these same persons made these devious and fabricated claims ahead of the 2015 election. They failed woefully.”

The President said he still strongly affirmed the oath he took before the Nigerian people to faithfully defend the Constitution of Nigeria, adding that the Constitution of the country guarantees freedom of worship for every Nigerian and to practise their faiths without hindrance.

President Buhari further reaffirmed his commitment to freedom of religion and worship for all Nigerians. He said under no circumstance would any religion or faith be imposed on any Nigerian by his administration.
