Ondo deputy governor booed as he says state free from kidnapping

Barely eight days after a lecturer of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo reportedly killed by suspected kidnappers and while another three people have been reportedly kidnapped last Saturday including another lecturer Michael Olopete from the same institution, people have booed the Deputy Governor of Ondo State Mr. Agboola Ajayi as he said the state was free from kidnapping.

The Deputy Governor made the statement on Sunday evening at the Annual Prophetic Praise Festival 2018 organised by the gospel music icon, Evangelist Bisi Alawiye-Aluko.

The event held at the B.T.O Hall, Ilesa garage, Akure had political and music dignitaries in attendance among which were the wife of the Kwara State Governor Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed; the Afro Juju music legend Sir Shina Peters. Others were Prophet Sam Olu-Alo; Evangelist Elijah Akintunde of Voice of Elijah and host of other religious leaders.


The Deputy Governor was quoted as saying:
“…Ondo state is relatively peaceful. Unlike some other states, no kidnapping or strange killing here…”

The statement was swiftly greeted with a loud boo from the crowd in the hall. However, Mr. Ajayi, who noticed the disapproval from the people, quickly reorganised and said Ondo state was relatively peaceful compared to some other states most especially in the northern part of the country.

The fresh Saturday abduction, according to the Punch, took place in two different locations in the state. It was reported that one of the victims, Michael Olopete is a lecturer in the Department of Marketing at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo and abducted on the Owo—Ipele Road, while other two were said to be travelers and were abducted on the Owo-Ikare Expressway.
