Recall the Ondo State Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Jacob Adebo (Idajo) had earlier mentioned a group he described as “Ekun and Co” was behind the rampant kidnapping in Akure. The NURTW boss said this last Saturday in a voice insert as played on Gongo Nso radio programme by the investigative radio presenter, Babatunde Bamigboye (Omo Edema).

In a press briefing at the State Headquarters, Igbatoro road, Akure, the police explained that the surveillance Patrol team of Akure Area Command were Patrolling Ondo Road when a good Samaritan alerted the officers that there was a lady going to Ondo Town, who boarded a car and instead of the driver going to Ondo, made a U-turn and headed towards Akure metropolis. They described the vehicle and the Police started following the vehicle. The vehicle was trailed to High School area where the officers had opportunity to overtake and blocked them. The driver whose name was later given as “Cherubim” jumped out of the car and ran away while the remaining two occupants of the vehicle were immediately arrested.

The two suspects were later identified as Olumide Faleye ‘m’ and Bola Ojo ‘f’ and on interrogation, the suspects confessed to be working for the said kingpin, Kayode Ajayi a.k.a “Ekun”

Police said ‘Ekun’ was immediately arrested and he confessed to the crime and the suspects claimed they were fraudsters and not killers.

But the police has argued that the 23-year-old lady, a student of Adeyemi College of Education Ondo, does not look wealthy enough to be defrauded, adding that the lady looked sedated as at the time she was rescued.

Confirming the incident on telephone conversation with Omo Edema, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command DSP Femi Joseph, said that the woman, Bola Ojo among the suspects is a housewife of kingpin.

“Police will take them to court for prosecution”, DSP Joseph said.
