A National Diploma year one student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo in Ondo state was reportedly shot dead on Thursday evening by suspected cult members.

The deceased simply identified as Ajibade, studying Public Administration, reportedly met his death opposite the main entrance gate of the institution when his killers—two men came on motorcycle and fired gunshot at him at close range and left immediately.

An eyewitness, Jayeola Akanbi, told Mercy-Babs News that the incident happened when the deceased “was buying snacks on the other side of the gate. All we heard was a gun shot and all of us around the place ran for our dear lives. We came back to the scene to discover it was Ajibade that was shot on the head.

The students of the institution were apprehensive as they said this was the third similar incident around the Polytechnic in the month of November 2018.

Another source who pleaded anonymity said he did not know if the victim was a cult member.

“I don’t know if Ajibade was a cult member because his death was mysterious. He died on the spot. The perpetrators came on a bike. I could not wait till the body was taken away from the scene for the fear that his killers might come back.”

All efforts made to speak with the PRO of the institution on the incident proved abortive till the time of filling this report.
