In what seemed a swift response to the action of their APC colleagues, the Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers in the Benue State House of Assembly, this afternoon, announced the suspension of seven All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers a few hours after the latter served the Governor of the State, Samuel Ortom with impeachment notice.

The PDP lawmakers said they were suspending the APC lawmakers for court contempt and for holding illegal plenary.

The 19 PDP lawmakers, during their plenary at the old banquet hall of the Government House in Makurdi, Benue State capital announced that the plenary held by the APC lawmakers was illegal, expressing that they disregarded the restraining order against the former speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange and his executives.

Earlier on Monday, the APC lawmakers, during their plenary at the State House of Assembly, moved a motion for the impeachment of Governor Samuel Ortom over alleged diversion of state funds and abuse of office. During the plenary, the 22 PDP lawmakers were prevented from gaining access to the complex by the heavy and intimidating presence of police.

Recall, an order was given last week by a Benue State High court restraining the impeached speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Terkimbi Ikyange, from parading himself as the Speaker of the House.

The PDP lawmakers have said there was need for intervention of international community in the crisis tossing the House.
