The remains of the Nigerian reggae music legend, Ras Kimono will be laid to rest today at his home town, Onicha-Olona community, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State.
Kimono’s funeral activities began in Lagos earlier this week and had continued in Asaba. Vanguard news reports, in celebrating the life well-spent of the music icon, a procession was embarked on along major streets in the metropolis by members of the Copyright Society of Nigeria, Rasta fraternity and joined by the teeming reggae music lovers.
In the tributes at his lying-in-state at the Cenotaph, Asaba Delta State capital yesterday, the reggae legend was described as a man of peace and integrity and part of pride and history of Nigeria.
In his own tribute to the departed artist, the Chief Executive Officer of COSON, Tony Okoroji, said he knew that Kimono lives, describing him as peace loving man during his days on earth.
“I know that Kimono lives. As we drove from Lagos yesterday (Thursday), ordinary people at every stop, were singing Kimono’s songs and dancing to his beats. ”
Ras Kimono died on Sunday June 10, 2018 at Lagoon Hospital on the Island, Lagos at 60years of age.
