The Lagos State Police Command has arrested the singer, Adekunle Temitope, popularly known as Small Doctor, for unlawful possession of firearms and for allegedly threatening to shoot a police officer.
While parading the musician alongside three other suspects at the Command’s headquarters, Ikeja on Monday, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi said it was reported that four unknown men had brought out a gun and threatened a policeman on duty that if he would not leave the road, they would shoot him.
According to him “It was alleged that some unknown men, four of them, in an unregistered green SUV had brought out a gun and threatened a policeman that if he does not leave the road, they will shoot him.”
Imohimi explained that he immediately sent out his policemen to go after the unknown men in possession of gun, believing that they were armed robbers. He said they were later intercepted around Shogunle area of Lagos.
“Believing that they were armed robbers, I sent out my men and fortunately, with the DPO in charge of Shogunle division, they were able to intercept them and the men were arrested and were brought down to the headquarters for interrogation.
“It was then discovered that one of them is the same Adekunle Temitope, a.k.a. ‘Small Doctor’. They were arrested in possession of a functional rifle, cartridge and some of their personal belongings.”, Imohimi said.
Sources said that this was not the first time ‘small doctor’ would be caught in the web of illegality. They recalled he had once had similar case with the police which took him some days in detention at the State Intelligence and Investigation Department (SIID), Panti, Yaba Lagos.
The Lagos police boss, who wondered why the popular singer would indulge himself in lawlessness, said they would be taken to court.
